FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
London, 11 November 2025 – London’s prestigious literary publication, Reader’s House Magazine, has unveiled its latest issue, featuring an exclusive interview with acclaimed British author Ryan Berridge. Berridge, known for his masterful blending of horror and maritime adventure, has garnered high praise for his Rattler Trilogy, a pirate-horror series comprising The Rattler, Snake Huntress, and The Golden King.
The magazine lauded Berridge’s work as “bold, visceral, and thought-provoking,” highlighting his ability to craft gripping tales that delve into the darkest depths of human experience. Writing with both emotional depth and raw intensity, Berridge is credited with creating stories that are deeply human while pushing the boundaries of genre fiction. Notably, Reader’s House praised his skill in merging Stephen King’s tension-filled horror with Bernard Cornwell’s historical grit, calling his stories “a remarkable combination of heart-stopping action and powerful character arcs.”
Reflecting on the origins of his writing, Berridge revealed, “The anger came much later for me. My childhood was perfectly normal, but as I entered my thirties, life’s challenges became overwhelming – including the premature birth of my daughter and the lack of support from my workplace. A lot of that emotional turmoil came out in The Rattler, and the subsequent books were written under a similar cloud.”
In discussing his ability to craft ambiguous, hauntingly real monsters, Berridge stated, “Whilst there are mentions of mythical creatures in the trilogy, their descriptions can often be explained in our everyday world – a deliberate choice to let the reader decide whether these monsters are real or exaggerated tales of fear.”
Reader’s House further celebrated the vivid action in Berridge’s storytelling, noting the intensity of his battle scenes. The author elaborated on his process, sharing, “I wanted to capture the chaotic and unpredictable nature of battle. There was no planning for those scenes – just me imagining myself in the heat of the moment. It needed to feel real without being gruesome simply for the sake of it.”
Berridge also reflected on the thematic culmination of his series in The Golden King, where his protagonist, Sam, faces a climactic moral and physical downfall. “I needed Sam to experience the absolute peak of his abilities and then see him begin to fall from his perch. I wanted readers to be completely unsure of where the story was heading in the final ten pages,” he explained in the interview.
The Rattler Trilogy has solidified Ryan Berridge as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary horror-adventure fiction, with fans and critics alike praising the emotional and thematic depth of his characters, alongside his unflinching exploration of humanity’s moral complexities.
