PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
London, 14 May 2025 – Award-winning author Barbara Avon takes centre stage as the cover feature of Reader’s House magazine’s latest issue. Renowned for her captivating, multi-genre storytelling and profound exploration of love and horror, Barbara Avon continues to leave her mark on contemporary literature. Recognised with the prestigious Editor’s Choice Award of Literary Excellence by Reader’s House, Barbara is celebrated for her exceptional talent and thought-provoking works that have resonated with readers worldwide.
In their glowing review, Reader’s House praises Barbara for her “hauntingly beautiful narratives” and her ability to blur the lines between genres in a way that both inspires and intrigues. Highlighting her bestselling titles, such as Revived and Sultry Is the Night, the magazine calls her creation of complex, emotionally resonant stories a “testament to her mastery of the craft.”
Barbara shares insights into her life and writing process in an exclusive interview that forms the heart of this issue. Reflecting on the moment she was encouraged to pursue writing by her Grade 9 English teacher, Barbara remarks: “It was until I was in my 30s and after a significant breakup that I decided to put pen to paper. Although I set that first novel aside for many years, it marked the beginning of this incredible journey.”
Her ability to shift seamlessly between genres is rooted in her fascination with the human psyche. “Horror is my favourite genre to write,” Barbara explains, adding “Life can be horrific. Exploring the human psyche is fascinating. One simple word can inspire many ideas. I can transform the word ‘horizon’ into something romantic, or even horrific.”
The interview also reveals Barbara’s unique approach to writing. She emphasises the importance of titles and covers in sparking her creativity, stating: “Unlike some of my peers, I always decide on my title and create my cover before I start writing. Both inspire the rest of the story.” On the development of her characters, especially her male protagonists, Barbara reflects: “All my characters are as real to me as the flesh and blood person sitting next to me. I’ve had readers tell me that, had they not known I was a female author, they would have guessed I was male because of the realism in my male protagonists.”
The magazine also applauded Barbara’s bold journey into self-publishing. She outlines her creative independence, saying: “I never queried publishers. I wanted to be in control of every aspect—from writing and editing to cover design and marketing. Essentially, I run my own business as an author.” Highlighting the challenges of visibility in the competitive literary world, she asserts: “Being passionate means never giving up.”
Barbara’s exploration of emotional depth and her themes of love amidst horror leave lasting impressions. She notes: “Love can conquer all. Even life’s darkest tragedies can be hauntingly beautiful when framed through the lens of love.” Indeed, her literary works are meant to evoke transformative emotions, carrying her personal philosophy into the hands of readers everywhere.
On her legacy as an author, Barbara shares: “I was never able to be a mother. My books are my legacy—in them, a reader can glimpse me, my Italian roots, my fiercely independent nature. The stories will stand as time capsules of sorts.”
Barbara Avon’s continued commitment to creativity, her dedication to storytelling, and her passion for connecting with readers worldwide make her one of literature’s luminaries. Her feature in Reader’s House is yet another milestone in a career defined by excellence.
